More Sympathy for Hillary
from the Media
"Women feel like everyone else, that they've known Hillary for a long time. And they have opinions about her, and a lot of women don't like Hillary Clinton. But at that debate when John Edwards decided to team up with Barack Obama and hit her and say, you know, and criticize her together and gang up on her, which they did. ... I thought, whoa, the guys are ganging up on Hillary Clinton!"

Chris Matthews Slips Up, Talks Truth
Think Chris Matthews is biased? Better than that. Now he’s fingering his own colleagues as the political beat heats up. Catch this quote from Hardball host Matthews on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Jan. 7: "There’s also the press out there. There’s an establishment press — which is just as establishment as the establishment of the Democratic Party — who can’t wait to write that fawning piece, ‘Here come the Clintons again.'"

The NY Times Uses Fuzzy Math To Slander Returning Troops
Ever ready to cast our troops in the worst light possible, the NY Times has sunk to smearing soldiers coming home with questionable statistics suggesting that they’re prone to become murderers. "But the Times also leaned on an outdated, exaggerated study to make an ideological point about the horrors of war, while relying on shaky statistics to link the historically unpopular Vietnam War with Iraq," MRC analysts write. Times reporters used a specific number of murder allegations within an unspecified number of returning soldiers. A mistake, as MRC’s Clay Walters discovered, because the number was substantially less than accepted statistics for the population as a whole (27 per 100,000 in the overall population, versus 17 returning soldiers for every 100,000 of the total of returning soldiers). Conclusion: Contrary to what the Times charges, returning soldiers are far less likely to commit murder than people in the general population.

Reporters Objective? The Jokes On Them
"Ridiculous," said NBC's Brian Williams to charges reporters can’t stay “objective” while covering candidate Obama. But then there are these reporters’ own words, captured by MRC analysts recently:
"It’s almost hard to remain objective [covering Obama]" -- NBC News reporter Lee Cowan.
Obama is "absolutely" benefiting from "sympathetic" coverage -- Former CBS and PBS reporter Terrence Smith.
Washington Post reporters "needed to go through detox" after time with Obama. -- Ex-Washington Post political editor John Harris.
All of this was on CNN’s Reliable Sources, hosted by ex-Post staffer Howard Kurtz who was asking the question this way: "[Obama] is an inspiring speaker, a man who can heal racial divisions. Newsweek this week asks 'Was he a media-created savior?' So, my question is, is he benefitting, at least at the margins, from sympathetic coverage?"
